Aspen’s employees have demonstrated a spirit of care, hope, and solidarity with communities in need for more than 14 years through our global Mandela Day programme.
In April and May 2024, extreme weather conditions and torrential rains sowed a path of destruction in Rio Grande du Sol, impacting about 600 000 citizens. While immediate aid reached some impacted by this natural disaster, there remained a pressing and significant need within the community for additional supplies.
As part of their Mandela Day activities, Aspen’s employees in Brazil rallied together to make a difference and stood in solidarity with the flood ravaged victims.
On 11 July 2024 donations were collected at the manufacturing site in Serra and transferred by truck to the office in Rio de Janeiro, where additional donations were collected the following day. More than 10 tons of supplies were then transported to Rio Grande do Sul and handed over to families served by Lions Club – District LD3 on Mandela Day, offering respite to about 4 800 affected individuals.
The aid included 800 food baskets, 400 hygiene and cleaning kits, 900 kg of pet food and 85 blankets to provide relief from the bitterly cold winter that was being experienced in that area. With these gestures of care, Aspen’s employees extended hope to thousands of people who had lost almost everything in their homes.
These activities reflect the spirit of our people. Each contribution, no matter how big or small, has formed part of more than 990 Mandela Day projects that our employees have undertaken across 40 countries over the past 14 years. Collectively, these actions have touched the lives of some 910 000 individuals, embodying our ethos of caring for communities around the world.
